Behavior, Rules, Consequences and Rewards

Behavior - Like many classrooms, I use a clip chart system. Every student will begin each day on green/Ready to Learn. The students may clip up or down throughout the day depending on their behavior. At the end of the day wherever their clip is is what will be documented in their daily agenda to be signed by the parents. Here is our clip chart for reference --

Digital Citizenship - I plan on integrated many types of technology into my lesson plans. I mentioned before that we will be using Google Classroom. We will also use the internet, computer programs and more. With all of this comes great responsibility. We have to trust that the students will respect the content on the Internet. Each student and parent will be required to sign an "Internet Contract" at the beginning of the year. This will state that the student understands that the Internet and computer are for educational purposes and that it will be used only for that. Also, any research done on the internet will be credited to the original source. In order to continue to use these great resources, good behavior, responsibility and trust must be enforced.

Rules and Consequences - I have just a short list of rules that each student is expected to follow.
1. Treat others as you want to be treated. (The Golden Rule)
2. Respect other people and their property, space and body.
3. Laugh with anyone, but laugh at no one.
4. Be responsible for your own learning.
The consequences to breaking these rules varies according to severity and frequency. The first offense will usually just be to clip down and reflect. I try not to do anything major for a minor offense. That would just create more distraction for the class. For second offenses and/or more severe , then loss of privledges, rewards and free time will happen. Third will be a call home to the parents. Fourth will be a referral to the principal's office.

Rewards - Our entire school uses the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) system which I intend to follow. In addition, my individual classroom will have its own little reward system. Students can get tickets for being caught doing something good, improving grades, helping out, outstanding behavior and more. These tickets can then be turned in for prizes. The prizes range from little trinkets, stickers and candy to free homework passes or eat with the teacher.
